Fiorentina forward Adrian Mutu is relieved to have committed his future to the club, and revealed he was never likely to make a switch to Roma.

Mutu's future in Florence had been in doubt all summer after he requesting a pay rise at the end of the season.

In July, a week after announcing he hoped to end his career with the Fiorentina, both Roma and the Viola admitted that an offer had been made by the capital club for Mutu.

But the 29-year-old insists he never expressed a desire to leave Fiorentina.

He told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport: "I'm not happy about how this entire episode has played out.

"I never said yes to Roma. I don't know what my agent said, but I never said yes.

"There was contact between the clubs. But the important thing now is that it's all over."

Earlier this week Mutu ended speculation put pen to paper on a lucrative new deal which should keep the Romanian at the Stadio Artemio Franchi until 2012.

"I'm happy that things have finished this way. I'm happy to stay here and to be able to continue in the project."
