EXCLUSIVE: Dave Mitchell is confident Perth Glory can tempt the missing fans back to Members Equity Stadium this season.

Last season saw an average home gate of 7,606 with season two a similar story at 7,671 as Glory failed to make an impression on the top four.

Mitchell is confident that his new-look squad can help increase that figure but says it hasn’t been a case of the Perth footballing public having abandoned the team.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: “Our supporters are fantastic and they really get behind us, something we all appreciate.

“I think when you look back to the old NSL and the success then the crowds were somewhere around nine to nine and half thousand.

“So there’s two thousand fans out there that we have to try and get back on board if you like. I think we’ve assembled a squad this year that has more depth than before and I think I’ve brought in a couple of players who can perhaps unlock things in a tight game.

“We want to be strong at home and if we can put a run of results together then you would hope the fans will be there and wanting to be part of it.”

Glory kick off the home portion of their A-League season on Friday night against Gary van Egmond’s Newcastle Jets.
