EXCLUSIVE: With a surge of interest online and club names whittled down to six, South Coast Football say they are confident ahead of their crunch meeting with FFA next week.
South Coast is bidding for a spot in next year's A-League. And if the club is not admitted, they will continue the process say bid organisers."We are of course confident of presenting our region and ourselves very well and we are very well prepared. I suppose it is all a matter of timing now, but regardless we will be presenting ourselves as a "ready to go" team," Eddy De Gabrielle, bid chairman, told au.fourfourtwo.com today.
Interest in the would-be franchise has been building. A crowd of over 6,000 for the Pre-Season Cup match between Sydney and Phoenix at the club's preferred home ground WIN Stadium was encouraging.
And over half a million hits to the bid's website, claim the bid, is "astounding" said De Gabrielle.
There is also growing public fascination in the name of the franchise, which is currently under the working title of South Coast Football.
"The 'Naming Our Team Segment' went really well," said De Gabrielle.
"But of course the usual suspects keep turning up looking for historical significance when what we really want is new, fresh, some relevance, if possible, but also some imagination.
"I think we ended up with a list of about 47 names and it was fairly well spread out amongst the top six or so, which still is; Diamonds, Stars, simple South Coast FC and even South Coast Illawarra FC.
"All else is progressing very well and I can say we are very well prepared and ready to make our presentation."
