What a week in football…

The European Champions League final has once again come and gone and amazingly, the two sides had an Aussie each on their books. Even though Zeljko Kalac watched the match from the bench and Harry Kewell was used as a second-half sub, it's impressive to think that our home-grown players can make it to the very top.

On the local front, Travis Dodd put three past Dong Tam Long in the Asian Champions League while Sydney FC did battle with one of the region's football powerhouses. Sure, Sydney couldn't manage a win away to the Red Diamonds - but the future of Australian club football looks promising. The sell-out crowd at Saitama Stadium is certain to become a more regular spectacle as the stature of the Asian Champions League grows.
